There are times in our lives we just need to get away. We retreat from our usual environment in order to become immersed elsewhere. A retreat can be taken for reasons of spirituality, stress, health, lifestyle, or social or ecological concerns.

A retreat can either be a time of:

• solitude or a community experience,
• held in silence or with dialogues
• conducted at private facilities or at a retreat centre such as a monastery.

Spiritual retreats allow time for reflection, prayer, or meditation.

Whether it is a:

• sudden change in our life,
• loss of a job, friend, or spouse,
• a need to re-evaluate where we are and want to be,
• desire to commune with nature,
• connection to a higher power,
• or time to make a change,

there is a sacred place with minimal structure to retreat, explore, question, and reflect.

The Amarjah Center hosts quiet weekend spiritual retreats each month in a small town environment. There is no traffic. You can walk downtown to wander the antique mall, hike in the mountains, visit Chimney Rock, or sun by beautiful Lake Lure. (Dirty Dancing was filmed there, but alas there is no Patrick Swayze to greet you.) We can explore the lights of Brown Mountain, visit the organic goat farm, or evaluate the local haunted houses. There will be a private spiritual consultation included in your weekend fee.

The retreat house reminds many of their grandmother's home. It has large high ceilinged rooms, formal dining areas, but most of the time we eat in the kitchen. Morning meditation is held on the front porch or in the large living room. Many of our foods are organically grown and prepared from scratch. You may pitch in as you like.

There is a spiritual library you can peruse and if you must, there is wifi access to remain in contact with the outside world. The bedrooms are comfortable, but not fancy. The spiritual community invokes you to join in as a member in a "family of choice." This is a time for your own self-exploration with personal, spiritual, and meditation instruction time. Mystica Intensives

Mystica Intensives are modern group retreats facilitating individuals to experience enlightenment and mystical awareness in a relatively short period of time. The typical Intensive is just three days long with the goal of a momentary change in the individual's state of consciousness. The individual and group directly experience absolute reality or ultimate truth. The intent is self-discovery with no particular dogma, but a rich background of diverse traditions to relate.
